Essential oils for body butter

Feel free to use any combination of essential oils for body butter below.

  1. Frankincense – Great for the skin, frankincense can help reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots.
  2. Lavender – Lavender is soothing and calming, making this body butter perfect for applying before bed in place of a night cream.
  3. Wild Orange – This essential is very uplifting and refreshing. It smells amazing with cocoa butter, and it has immune-boosting properties. NOTE: If you choose wild orange for your body butter, be sure not to apply it before going out in the sun. Citrus oils can cause the skin to burn when used in direct sunlight.
  4. Peppermint – Peppermint has a cooling effect on the body and can relieve tension. Adding peppermint oil to the body butter can make it great for muscle and joint discomfort.
  5. Bergamot – Bergamot adds a beautiful scent to the body butter and adds calming benefits. Bergamot is commonly used for stress and anxious feelings.

FAQs

How do you stabilize whipped body butter? ›

Use coconut oil for a fairly high melting point and a moisturizer. Coconut oil has a melting point of 78 °F (26 °C), meaning it can stay solid for a long time before turning to liquid. If you can, substitute your main body butter ingredient for coconut oil to have a better chance of keeping your body butter solid.

How do you make whipped body butter less greasy? ›

Starches and clays can do a lot to reduce the oily feel of a body butter; I especially like cornstarch because it's so readily available. Check out this formulation for an example of how to incorporate it, and how much to use.

How do you make body butter stay fluffy? ›

How do you make body butter soft and fluffy? The oils are first melted together and then chilled. Once chilled you can use an electric mixer or hand whisk to whip the mixture and incorporate air. This will make it soft and fluffy.

Why is my whipped body butter not fluffy? ›

The fat blend is too soft and can't hold air in it.

If it's so soft that it tends towards liquid, you won't be able to whip any air into it. If your body butter liquifies in the bottom of the bowl from the get-go, you need to increase the percentage of solid ingredients and reduce the percentage of liquid ingredients.

What increases the stability of whipped cream? ›

To prevent a structural disaster and avoid a soupy, unstable mess, though, you can stabilize it by adding Instant ClearJel, cornstarch, or another dairy ingredient like mascarpone or crème fraîche. To keep whipped cream light and fluffy for longer, you can stabilize it.

Can you over whip whipped butter? ›

When you over beat butter - I mean REALLY over beat it, the beating action does start melting the butter and melted butter does not hold onto air bubbles as well as a creamy butter.

Why did my whipped body butter get hard? ›

But sometimes, as experienced, whipped Shea butter hardens due to long storage durations or colder weather. It also becomes difficult to use and spread on the skin. To prevent whipped Shea butter from hardening due to different circ*mstances, it is always recommended to combine a natural oil with it.

Do you rinse off whipped body butter? ›

The answer, in most cases, is no. Body butter is designed to be left on the skin to work its magic throughout the day or night. Washing it off immediately would negate its purpose and the benefits it can offer to your skin. Deep Hydration: Body butter provides long-lasting hydration.

How do you make body butter feel luxurious? ›

If you're looking to give an expensive feel to your body butters that will make them stand out, try swapping some of the liquid oil in the formulation for a lightweight liquid ester. Like liquid oils, esters are oil-soluble emollients, but their skin feel and slip is lighter and more luxurious.

What is the best thickener for body butter? ›

Including a fatty thickener is definitely my favourite way to thicken a lotion. Examples include cetearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearic acid and C10-18 Triglycerides (aka “Butter Pearls”).

What does arrowroot powder do in body butter? ›

Arrowroot powder can be added to anhydrous body care products including body balms, salves, and butters to enable the end product to have a more appealing lightweight texture while leaving a non-greasy finish to the skin.

What is the difference between whipped body butter and body butter? ›

Body butters themselves won't hydrate the skin, because they don't contain water. So, if your skin is dehydrated, these products may not be the most effective option for you. Whipped body butters melt easily in warm temperatures. You can still use them, but the fluffy, whipped texture isn't there.

What oil is best for body butter? ›

Shea oil – adds just the right amount of smoothness to the more solid shea butter. The two together create a silky smooth body butter. Jojoba oil – I love to use vanilla jojoba oil which is vanilla essential oil in jojoba oil as a carrier oil. You can also use regular jojoba oil or substitute with shea oil.

Is whipped body butter better than lotion? ›

The main takeaways for these products are: Body butter is better for rougher skin that needs a more intensive moisturizer. Body butter is often more natural, whereas lotions are more refined. Body lotion is not as thick, so it spreads more easily and absorbs into the skin faster.

How do you keep body butter from separating? ›

For body butters, you'll want to start by increasing the butter and decreasing the liquid oil, but if you live somewhere very hot you may also need to replace some of the butter with a fatty thickener like stearic acid or even a wax like beeswax.

Does whipped body butter need a preservative? ›

If your product only contains oils, you don't need preservative. ROE will help the body butter from going rancid but if you use long lasting oils, that really shouldn't be a issue either. I have some whipped body butter that is shea, coconut and olive.
