The silver pigs
It is an historical novel set in Rome and Britannia during AD 70, after the regime of four emperors. It is the first novel in the series which introduces the main characters as well as establishes relationships which continue and grow throughout the series. In the series, Falco stumbles upon a conspiracy in the trading of silver ingots (pigs), but not before it takes away the life of a young girl known as Sosia Camillina whom he meets and gets obsessed with. Falco is hired by the girl’s uncle who is a senator to find out who murdered her. Falco takes a boat to Britain where he meets a lady a way out of his class. She is called Helena Justina and is a daughter of the senator who hired him. Generally, they spend much of time together with lots of arguments, denial and misunderstanding but eventually fall in love. Eventually, Falco sorts out the case and has to bring the culprits to justice. However, justice seem not to find way when one of the culprits is a Domitian, the very rebellious own son of the emperor. One remains live for the other culprits and that person turns to be very close to Helena and her senator father. Eventually after a bloody, retribution is carried in climax; Falco is offered a chance to be raised to the upper middle class. In that class, he was allowed to marry Helena without bringing her family shame which is a thing he cannot manage. He returns to Vespasian to ask for a chance, he is told that in order for him to qualify to be added to the list of equestrian, he first needs to raise a four hundred sesterces himself to purchase land. Falco got dejected and returned to his dilapidated tenement in the Aventine hill. He finds Helena waiting for him. Helena promises to wait for him for a long as it could take.
Shadows in bronze

Having been guilty of the treason against the emperor, Falco knows how paramount secrecy is since he was a victim of a discreet execution.
Falco is involved with the tidying up of the conspiracy and emptying of the traitor’s house in his position as an imperial agent. Falco together with Anacrites arrive at the palace to report to the emperor, the emperor afterwards wishes to destroy any evidence which his son is schemed.
A freedman burst in to inform the emperor that the temple is on fire. Anacrites is sent to find Barnabas, a freedman who has been following Falco around. Falco is sent to investigate the arson attach. He later discovers that cirtius who had been summoned to Rome to account for his role in the plot had already been killed in the fire that broke. When he returns to the place, he is informed that Anacrites was unable to locate Barnabas, Barnabas become the suspect in the arson death.
Falco is again sent to magna in the south to find Aulus who was a brother to Cirtius. He is in danger from Barnabas. He manages to track down Aulus and informs him about the death of his brother.
Falco travels to Bay and visits one estate of Caprenius Marcellus where he runs into Helena who is visiting her father in law.
Due to the passionate nature of their ox, Falco, Nero and Larius are arrested in Herculaneum. They are taken to see the magistrate known as Aemilus Rufus. It is here where they also meet Helena with her friend, sister to Rufu. Falco becomes a harp tutor to the sister.
Finally, Falco manages to track down Aufidius Crispus at the Villa Poppaea where the senator is hosting a sumptuous banquet to gain support for his future political plans. Once again Falco finds the traces of Barnabas but the freedman vanished. After several days of search, Falco manages to catch up with him only to find out that the freedman Barnabas is in fact the ex husband of Helena Justina, who is believed to be dead. It becomes clear that Marcellus expects the divorced couple to remarry.
Crispus and Pertinax flee imperial questioning on Crispus yacht. Crispus is killed when the yacht is rammed by a person ordered by Rufus. Pertinax succeeds to escape returning to Rome and attempts to force Helena to remarry him so that he can regain his money but is ticked and finally killed by Falco.
